Audited Supplier Buparvaquone is a hydroxynaphthoquinone antiprotozoal drug related to parvaquone and atovaquone. It is a promising compound for the therapy and prophylaxis of all forms of theileriosis. Buparvaquone has been shown to have anti-leishmanial activity in vitro. It can be used to treat bovine East Coast fever protozoa in vitro, along with the only other substance known - Peganum harmala.[citation needed] It is the only really effective commercial therapeutic product against bovine theileriosis.
For treatment of tick-transmitted theileriosis caused by the intracellular protozoan parasites Theileria parva(East Coast fever,Corridor disease,Zimbab- weantheileriosis) and T. annulata (tropical theileriosis) .
In cattle.it is active against both the schizont and piroplasm stages ofTheileria spp., and may be used during the incubation period of the diisease, or when clinical signs are apparent.
Due to the inhibiting effects of theileriosis on the immune system, vaccination should be delayed until the animal has recovered from theileriosis.
