Tiamulin hydrogen fumarate is a derivative of pleuromutilin, can be used in veterinary medicine particularly for pigs and poultry.It is a diterpene antimicrobial with a pleuromutilin chemical structure similar to that of valnemulin.
Tiamulin hydrogen fumarate is white or almost white crystalline powder, odorless and tasteless. It is easily soluble in methanol or ethanol, soluble in water, slightly soluble in acetone, and almost insoluble in hexane . Tiamulin hydrogen fumarate has good antibacterial activity against a variety of Gram-positive cocci, including most staphylococci and streptococci (except group D streptococci) and a variety of mycoplasmas and some spirochetes. However, the antibacterial activity against some negative bacteria is very weak, except for Haemophilus species and some E. coli and Klebsiella strains.
